And from the look on my girls' faces, it's not only possible to eat healthy,
but it can be fun, too!
I am so happy to see Ella (age 3) and Aysia (age 5) enjoying healthy choices even when eating out! (Props to their daddy who was with them this day and encouraged the healthy choices at Starbucks!) It looks like they are trying the greek yogurt and rice cakes that the Starbucks in Seoul has to offer. I want to encourage us all with this picture that even though eating healthy might seem like too much work and perhaps not even possible for our busy lifestyles, it is possible and it can start with just making good choices wherever we go!
Depending on where we live in this world, it may be easier or harder to find healthy foods. For example, when I was visiting Naples, FL this summer, whole food stores were easily in reach. It was fun to visit them and learn about different healthy products. It's frustrating to want to change your eating habits, but not be able to access the foods that allow you to do so. Believe me, I know!
When I returned back to Seoul this summer after visiting the U.S.A., I immediately wanted to jumpstart our family's health kick, so we went shopping as soon as possible to find the "perfect" foods! As you know, salmon is a very healthy fish to consume. However, as I have learned, the salmon should be wild and not farmed. Well, as my family and I visited Cosco, where we normally buy the majority of our food for the month, I could not wait to get my hands on the salmon, which I did not buy in the past because it's so expensive. I just knew the salmon I had seen in the past at Cosco had to be wild salmon and I could taste the yumminess of it in my mouth! To my surprise, when I hurriedly went to pick up a nice slab of what I thought was wild salmon, the sign said FARM-RAISED!!! I was outraged!!! How could this be??? No fresh, wild salmon? My husband and son, J.T., were watching my reaction the whole time. They like to add to the story that I was telling all the customers not to buy this salmon because it is farm-raised instead of wild. I, however, remember only talking to one customer about this:) haha! Well, needless to say, I was crying in Cosco, not because of the large crowds this time, but because I could not find all the healthy choices I was hoping to find! Basically, I then and there, right smack in the middle of Cosco, realized I was going to have to work hard if my family was going to eat healthy! As the saying goes, good things are hard to come by!
Well, I'd like to say I have simmered down a bit since this trip to Cosco, but I don't know! You will have to ask my family! I don't want to go overboard, but I do want to do my best to feed our family well. So, I am on a quest in Seoul to find healthy choices! From restaurants to grocery stores, I will be searching high and low for the best foods! Come with me on this journey! I will keep you informed of all my good, healthy finds!
I will leave you with a picture from one of my favorite restaurants in Seoul to wet your appetite! Seoul friends, any guesses as to where the picture below is taken?
My next post on this page will highlight some restaurants around Seoul with healthy choices we can choose!
but it can be fun, too!
