Colossians 1:18-20, our key verses for week 5, show so clearly the high position of Jesus, as well as the humble position of Christ. From verse 19 we see that even as Jesus walked on earth as a human, He was GOD, "for it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him". With that being said, verse 18, which states that Jesus "is the head of the church", "the beginning" is easy to grasp, knowing that everything in Jesus points to GOD, for as John 1:1 tells us Jesus is GOD! Not only is Jesus' preeminence shown in our verses this week, but in verse 20, we are reminded of the lowly position Jesus allowed Himself to be in on the cross. It was not only GOD's good pleasure to exalt Jesus, but it was also His will to save us through Jesus' death on the cross, knowing full well that Jesus' death would not be the end, but the beginning of a new life for all those who receive Jesus as LORD and Savior! |
